Earlier this week a group from SLC traveled to St. Louis to tour the Hermann Oak Leather Tannery. Our experience there, guided by plant engineer Robert Harvey, was absolutely fascinating. We knew Hermann Oak produced the highest quality vegetable tanned leather out there, but to see the process in action, and to meet the men and women who value quality above all else, brought a greater appreciation for the time-honored tanning techniques Hermann Oak has maintained since 1881.

At the end of our tour Jeff took notice of the Hermann Oak mission statement.

“Our mission is to make superb leather for customers who create works of art. We are available to help at anytime. We want you back as a customer not just because you loved our products, but because you made a friend.” – Shep Hermann

SLC, along with leather crafters worldwide are grateful Hermann Oak continues to support the art of leathercraft. Thanks again to Shep Hermann and his team for their gracious hospitality. A special thanks goes out to Rob, who thoroughly answered the extraordinary number of questions we asked, and suggested we stop at Crown Candy for lunch.
